Gem Socketing Guide

Gem Socketing lets you customize weapons, armor, and shields with permanent equipment bonuses. Each eligible piece of equipment can have up to 2 gemstone slots, and each slot can hold one refined gemstone.

The system is simple at a glance: get equipment with a slot, choose a compatible gemstone, and socket it. The interesting part is choosing the right two gemstone families for your build.

Quick facts: Socketing a valid gemstone has no failure roll. The gemstone is consumed only after a valid socket is found. Each equipment piece may contain only one gemstone from the same stat family.

How Gem Socketing Works

  1. Obtain a refined Gemstone.
  2. Make sure your weapon, armor, or shield has at least one gemstone slot.
  3. Use the gemstone on a compatible piece of equipment.
  4. If an empty slot is available and the family is allowed, the gem is inserted immediately.
  5. The gemstone bonus becomes part of that equipment while it is worn.

Gemstones themselves come from the Jewelcrafting system. Raw Gems can be refined into different gemstone families and tiers using Jewel Cutters.

For refining odds and Jewel Cutter quality bands, see the Jewelcrafting Guide.

Natural Gemstone Slots

Monster-dropped equipment has a small chance to appear with gemstone slots already unlocked.

Natural SlotsDrop ChanceApprox. Frequency
2 Slots0.01%1 in 10,000 drops
1 Slot0.24%24 in 10,000 drops
0 Slots99.75%9,975 in 10,000 drops
Any natural slot at all: 0.25%, or approximately 1 in 400 eligible equipment drops.

A naturally slotted item does not come with a gemstone automatically. It simply has the empty slot ready for you to customize.

Unlocking Slots Manually

If your equipment has no slot, or only one slot, the Slot Enhancement service can attempt to unlock the next one.

1 → 2 Slots10,000,000 Gold60%Gold is consumed; equipment remains unchanged

A failed Slot Enhancement does not destroy the equipment, remove an existing slot, or remove socketed gemstones.

Probability of Unlocking Both Slots First Try

80% × 60% = 48%

Starting from a 0-slot item, there is a 48% chance of successfully reaching 2 slots with exactly one attempt at each stage.

These are long-run averages, not guaranteed costs. You may succeed immediately or fail several times.

Gemstone Families

Gemstones are divided into two groups:

  • Armor / Shield Gemstones — defensive and recovery bonuses.
  • Weapon Gemstones — offensive, farming, and utility bonuses.

Armor & Shield Gemstones

Defense Ratio (DR)+1 to +25Directly adds Defense RatioArmor / Shield

MP Recovery+1% to +25%Increases periodic MP recoveryArmor / Shield
SP Recovery+1% to +25%Increases periodic SP recoveryArmor / Shield
Knockback Resist+1% to +25%Chance to resist knockbackArmor / Shield
Stun Resist+1% to +25%Chance to resist applicable Stun effectsArmor / Shield

Recovery Formula

HP, MP, and SP Recovery gemstones modify the amount restored by the normal regeneration tick.

Recovered Amount = Base Recovery + floor(Base Recovery × Gem Bonus ÷ 100)

Example: if a regeneration tick would normally restore 80 HP and your equipped gemstones provide a combined +25% HP Recovery:

80 + floor(80 × 25 ÷ 100) = 100 HP

Resistance Formula

Knockback Resist and Stun Resist are checked as percentage chances when the corresponding effect attempts to apply.

Example: +25 Stun Resist = 25% resistance chance from that gemstone bonus

Bonuses from multiple equipped items are added together before the server performs the resistance check.

Weapon Gemstones

Hit Ratio (HR)+5 to +125Directly adds Hit RatioWeapon
Extra EXP (EXP)+5% to +125%Increases monster EXP earnedWeapon
Extra Gold (Gold)+5% to +125%Increases applicable Gold gainWeapon
Critical Additional Damage (CAD)+1 to +25Adds damage to combo/critical bonus calculationWeapon
Poison Damage (PD)+5 to +125Adds extra Poison damage valueWeapon

EXP Formula

EXP after gemstone bonus = Base EXP + floor(Base EXP × Total Extra EXP ÷ 100)

Example: a monster worth 10,000 EXP with +50% Extra EXP from equipped gemstone bonuses:

10,000 + 5,000 = 15,000 EXP

The bonus then participates in the server's normal EXP pipeline alongside other applicable modifiers.

Gold Formula

Gold after gemstone bonus = floor(Base Gold × (100 + Total Extra Gold) ÷ 100)

Example: 20,000 Gold with +25% Extra Gold becomes:

20,000 × 125% = 25,000 Gold

Gemstone Tier Ranges

Not every family uses the same numerical scale.

The Same-Family Rule

An equipment item cannot contain two gemstones from the same stat family.

One equipment item = maximum 1 gemstone from each family.
Slot 1Slot 2Allowed?
Defense +10Defense +25No — same DR family
Stun Resist +20Stun Resist +25No — same family
Defense +25Magic Resist +25Yes
HP Recovery +25%Stun Resist +25%Yes
EXP +125%Gold +125%Yes on a weapon
Hit Ratio +125CAD +25Yes on a weapon

The restriction applies per equipment item, not across your entire character. For example, several different armor pieces may each carry a Stun Resist gemstone.

Socketing Success

Once all compatibility rules pass, inserting the gemstone itself is guaranteed.

Gem Socketing Success = 100% for a valid insertion

There is no random socketing-failure roll and no Gold cost in the direct insertion function. One gemstone is removed from its stack only after the socket has been accepted.

A successful insertion immediately recalculates your equipped item bonuses and counts toward the Gem Socket achievement.

Unsocketing Gemstones

Socketing is not permanent. Gemstones can be removed through the Unsocket service, and successfully removed gemstones are returned to you.

Unsocket SelectionGold CostGem Returned?
1 Gemstone10,000,000 GoldYes
Both Gemstones15,000,000 GoldYes, both
There is no unsocket failure roll. If the request is valid and you have enough Gold, the selected gemstones are removed and returned.

Where Do Unsocketed Gems Go?

The server first tries to return each gemstone to your inventory. If the inventory cannot accept it, the gemstone is dropped on the ground at your character's position.

Return Order: Inventory → Ground Drop

Because there is no Shared Warehouse fallback during unsocketing, make sure you have enough inventory space before removing valuable gemstones.

Equipment Builds

There is no single best socket setup. Two different families per item lets you specialize each piece around your build.

In short: Slots define how many gemstone bonuses an item can carry, while gemstone families define what that equipment specializes in. Unlock up to two slots, combine two different compatible families, and use Unsocketing whenever you want to rebuild the item later.
