Fishing Guide

Fishing is a gathering skill built around patience, timing, and Fishing Mastery. Cast a Fishing Rod into water to catch ordinary Fish, or find special fishing targets that open the Fishing window and let you build up a higher catch chance before attempting to reel them in.

Quick facts: Fishing uses the Fishing skill and a Fishing Rod. A cast takes 6 seconds to resolve. Special fishing targets use a visible Fish Chance that starts at 1%, updates every 4 seconds, and is capped at 99%.

Getting Started

To fish, you need:

  • a Fishing Rod,
  • Fishing Mastery above 0, and
  • a water tile to cast into.

Using the rod consumes durability. If the cast is interrupted or the skill cannot complete, you may need to cast again.

Fishing Has Two Catch Flows

After a successful cast into water, one of two things happens depending on whether a special fishing target is nearby.

Fishing SituationWhat Happens
No special target nearbyYou immediately catch a normal Fish.
Special target nearbyThe Fishing window opens and you can wait for Fish Chance to improve before pressing Try Now!.
Special-target detection radius = 2 tiles around the water location you cast toward.

Initial Cast Success

Before a cast can produce a catch or engage a special target, Fishing Mastery must pass the normal Fishing skill roll.

Successful Cast: Fishing Mastery > random roll from 1 to 105

Because the comparison is strictly greater than the roll, the approximate cast-success chance is:

Cast Success % = (Fishing Mastery − 1) ÷ 105 × 100
Fishing MasteryApprox. Cast Success
108.57%
2018.10%
4037.14%
6056.19%
8075.24%
10094.29%

This first roll determines whether the fishing action successfully reaches the catch stage. Special targets then use their own Fish Chance system described below.

Normal Fish

If the cast succeeds but there is no active special fishing target close to the selected water tile, the server creates a standard Fish catch immediately.

Normal CatchCurrent Stat
ItemFish
Weight30
Base item price30 Gold
Base catch EXP1–2 EXP before normal EXP modifiers

If your inventory can accept the Fish, it is placed directly into your inventory. Otherwise it is dropped on the ground at your character.

Special Fishing Targets

Special catches spawn around configured fishing points on supported maps. These can be normal fish species or rare objects such as potions, gems, and upgraded weapons.

When you successfully cast close enough to one of these targets, the Fishing window opens instead of giving a normal Fish immediately.

Initial Fish Chance = 1%

The window shows the target item and your current Fish Chance. You may press Try Now! immediately, or wait and let the chance change over time.

Fish Chance Formula

Every 4 seconds, the server compares your Fishing Mastery against the target's hidden Fishing Difficulty.

Effective Fishing Skill = max(1, Fishing Mastery − Target Difficulty)

The higher this effective value is, the more strongly Fish Chance tends to rise.

Chance Change Size

Maximum Change = max(1, floor(Effective Fishing Skill ÷ 10))
Each update changes Fish Chance by a random amount from 1 to Maximum Change.

Direction of the Change

Each update also rolls a number from 1 to 100:

  • if Effective Fishing Skill > roll, Fish Chance increases,
  • if Effective Fishing Skill < roll, Fish Chance decreases,
  • if they are equal, Fish Chance does not change.
Fish Chance is always clamped between 1% and 99%.

Worked Examples

Fishing MasteryTarget DifficultyEffective SkillTypical Behavior per 4s Update
10019998% chance to rise, 1% to fall, 1% unchanged; change size 1–9
80206059% chance to rise, 40% to fall, 1% unchanged; change size 1–6
50203029% chance to rise, 70% to fall, 1% unchanged; change size 1–3
20251Cannot naturally rise; normally stays around the 1% minimum

This is why difficult catches are much easier to control with high Fishing Mastery.

When Should I Press Try Now?

Pressing Try Now! performs the final catch roll.

Final Catch Success = Current Fish Chance

For example:

Displayed Fish ChanceFinal Success Chance
1%1%
25%25%
50%50%
75%75%
99%99%

Waiting can improve your odds if your mastery is comfortably above the catch difficulty. Against a target that is too difficult, waiting may not help because Fish Chance will tend to fall back toward 1%.

What Happens on Success or Failure?

ResultBehavior
SuccessYou receive the target item, gain catch EXP and Fishing skill progress, and the special target disappears.
FailureYour fishing session ends, but the special target remains available until caught or despawned.

If your inventory is full after a successful special catch, the item is dropped on the ground at your character instead of being deleted.

Reward delivery: Inventory → Ground Drop fallback

Multiple Players Can Fish the Same Target

A single special fishing target can currently be engaged by up to:

3 players at the same time

Each player has their own Fish Chance. The first player who successfully catches the target removes it from the map, which cancels the other active fishing sessions on that same target.

Special Catch Difficulty & Base EXP

Each special target receives a Fishing Difficulty when it spawns. A successful special catch awards base EXP using that exact difficulty.

Base Catch EXP = Difficulty × 1d5
More precisely, the server rolls Difficulty dice, each worth 1–5 EXP.

That means:

Minimum Base EXP = Difficulty
Maximum Base EXP = Difficulty × 5
Average Base EXP ≈ Difficulty × 3

Normal server EXP modifiers are applied through the regular EXP system afterward.

Rare Fishing Catches

The fishing spawn pool also contains rare non-fish catches.

War Axe +255–7010.0741%
Ruby45–6010.0741%
Diamond45–6010.0741%
Important: These percentages describe each entry's share of the configured special-target spawn pool. They are not your final catch chance. You still need to find the spawned target, successfully engage it, and then pass the Fish Chance roll.

Common Fish Spawn Weights

All eight common special fish species currently use the same spawn weight:

150 / 1,350 total pool weight = 11.1111% per species

The configured pool also contains a 137-weight no-spawn result, equal to approximately 10.1481%. When that result is selected, no special target is created for that generator roll.

Special Fishing Maps

Special fishing targets are currently enabled on five maps.

MapMaximum Active Special Targets
Aresden25
Elvine25
Middleland20
Dawnvale20
Bisle10

The maximum is per map, not per player.

How Long Do Special Targets Stay?

Each spawned fishing target receives one of three lifetimes:

LifetimeChance
10 minutes33.33%
20 minutes33.33%
30 minutes33.33%
Special target lifetime = 10, 20, or 30 minutes

If nobody catches it before the timer expires, it disappears and a future spawn can eventually replace it.

Fishing Skill Progression

Fishing Mastery directly improves both your initial cast reliability and your ability to build Fish Chance against difficult targets.

A successful Fishing Rod action trains the Fishing skill. Successfully landing a special catch also grants additional skill progress based on that target's Fishing Difficulty.

Current server Skill EXP Rate = 200%

The global rate is applied to the skill-progress value before any active VIP Skill EXP modifier. The current VIP configuration provides a further +10% Skill EXP while VIP is active.

Higher-difficulty special catches therefore provide more skill progress when successfully landed.

Fishing Achievements

Each successful fishing catch counts toward the character-scoped Fishing achievement.

Achievement rule: Failed casts and failed Try Now! attempts do not count. Progress is awarded when a catch succeeds.

Practical Fishing Tips

  • Higher Fishing Mastery makes ordinary casts more reliable and makes difficult special catches much easier to control.
  • Against an easy target, waiting can push Fish Chance much higher before you press Try Now!.
  • Against a target whose Difficulty is near or above your Fishing Mastery, Fish Chance will tend to stay very low.
  • Rare catches have substantially higher Difficulty than most normal fish species.
  • If another player is already fishing the same special target, remember that only the first successful catch gets it.
  • Keep inventory space available; otherwise a successful catch may appear on the ground at your feet.
